Trailer for JIEJIE(2017). Runtime: 15m I Digital I Color
“Jiejie” is a portrait of two young sisters being raised by a single immigrant mother in Los Angeles in 1997.
"I thought I was ashamed of my younger sister, but really, I was ashamed of being an immigrant."
JIEJIE(older-sister) is an autobiographical coming-of-age story that explores the desperation I felt as a Taiwanese immigrant girl back in 1997, the first month after immigration. It is a confession, an act of love, and if I dare ask, it is me asking for a bit of redemption.
